Personalised Teacher Gifts for the End of Term
Thoughtful personalised thank-you gifts for teachers, teaching assistants and nursery staff, with ideas for individual and whole-class gifts, wording tips and budget suggestions.

Teachers, teaching assistants and nursery staff do a huge amount for our children, often far beyond the timetable. The end of term, whether that is the Christmas break or the long summer holiday, is the natural moment to say thank you.
The trouble is that teachers can end up with a mountain of mugs and chocolates, lovely as they are. A personalised gift stands out because it is clearly from your child, not just from a shop. Here are our ideas, from small individual thank-yous to class gifts that everyone chips in for. Everything is made to order in the Laser & Ink workshop in Sowerby Bridge.
A quick note before you buy
Some schools and nurseries have guidance on gifts for staff, and some teachers would genuinely rather have a heartfelt card. It is always worth a quick check with the class rep or school office if you are unsure. And remember, a handwritten note from your child is often the thing teachers treasure most. Whatever you choose, tuck one in.
Gifts teachers will actually use
The best teacher gifts are useful at school or at home, and personal enough that they would not be lost in a staffroom cupboard.
- A personalised notebook. Teachers get through notebooks at a remarkable rate. A spiral-bound A5 notebook with “Mrs Patel’s Big Ideas” on the cover, or “Thank you for a brilliant year”, is useful and personal. It comes in A4 too, for the planners.
- A tote bag for marking. Every teacher carries home a bag of exercise books. A large personalised tote bag with “Mr Hughes · Year 4 · 2026” or a drawing by the class gives them something sturdier than a carrier bag.
- A water bottle. Teaching is talking all day. A stainless steel water bottle with their name keeps them going through the afternoon.
- A pencil case. A personalised pencil case with their name, in stars, rainbows, football or dinosaurs, for the board pens and the red pens.
- A mug, if you must. We know, another mug. But a photo mug with a drawing by your child, or the class photo, is a different thing entirely from a shop-bought “Best Teacher” mug. And it is microwave safe, for the tea that has gone cold during playground duty.
Using your child’s drawing
This is our favourite trick for teacher gifts. Ask your child to draw a picture of their teacher, or the classroom, or themselves waving goodbye. Take a photo of it in good daylight, holding your phone directly above so it is not at an angle, and upload that as the photo. Children’s drawings look brilliant printed in full colour on a mug, tote bag or notebook cover.
Our photo tips guide has more advice on getting a crisp, clear image.
Class gifts from everyone
If parents are clubbing together, you can do something a little more special. A few ideas:
- A class photo on slate. The photo slate is 15 × 20cm with a stand, which comfortably fits a class photo. Add a caption such as “Oak Class · 2026”. Do check with school that the class photo can be used this way.
- A crystal block for a retiring teacher or a long-serving head. The large crystal photo block makes a beautiful leaving gift.
- A tumbler signed by the class. Ask every child to sign a sheet of paper, photograph it and use it as the background of a 40oz tumbler.
- A set of coasters with four of the children’s drawings, one on each, using the photo coaster set.

Wording ideas
- “Thank you for helping me grow” (a classic for nursery and reception).
- “Mrs Jones · Year 2 · Best Year Ever”.
- “Thank you for being my teacher. Love, Amelia”.
- “It takes a big heart to help shape little minds.”
- For teaching assistants: “Thank you for all the help, all year.”
Nursery and early years staff
Nursery keyworkers often care for a child from their first wobbly steps to the day they leave for school, and saying goodbye can be emotional on both sides. A gift that shows how much your child has grown is a lovely way to mark it. Try a photo mug with a picture of your child on their first day and another from their last, side by side, with “Thank you for looking after me”. Handprints work beautifully too: press your child’s painted hand onto plain paper, photograph it in daylight and use it as the design on a tote bag or notebook cover, with their name and the year underneath.
Do not forget the TAs, lunchtime staff, nursery keyworkers and one-to-one support staff. A small personalised thank-you often means even more to them.
When to order
Everything is made to order in 1–3 working days, then delivered by Royal Mail in 2–3 working days. For the end of the summer term, order in early July. For Christmas, the school term usually finishes before the big day itself, so check the date your school breaks up and work backwards. If you want a gift for Christmas Day itself, order by 15 December.
