Personalised Gifts for Dog Lovers (and a Few for the Dog)

Gift ideas for people whose dog is the centre of their world, from engraved pet portraits and photo mugs to walk-ready water bottles, plus thoughtful pet memorial keepsakes.

Personalised Photo Engraved Wooden Coaster – example personalised design

Dog people are easy to spot. Their phone is ninety per cent dog photos, their car smells faintly of wet fur, and they will happily tell you their dog’s full name, middle name included. For them, a gift with their dog on it is not a novelty. It is the best present they could get.

Here are our favourite ideas for dog lovers, with tips on choosing a photo that does the dog justice. We have also included a gentle section at the end on memorial gifts, for anyone who has recently said goodbye to a much-loved pet. Everything is made to order in the Laser & Ink workshop in Sowerby Bridge, and yes, we have a soft spot for a good dog photo.

Engraved pet portraits

Dogs make wonderful engraving subjects. Fur, whiskers and bright eyes have exactly the kind of texture and contrast that a laser loves. A photo engraved wooden coaster turns a favourite snap into a warm, brown-toned portrait on solid wood, with the dog’s name curved over the top and a line underneath, perhaps “Good Boy · Est. 2019” or “Head of Security”.

Each coaster is 95mm round and 7mm thick, with four rubber feet so it sits flat on a side table. A pair or set of four makes a lovely gift for a household with more than one dog, or the same dog four ways.

Which photos work best? Close-ups, with the dog’s face filling most of the frame. Contrast matters: a black Labrador on a light carpet, or a white terrier against a dark sofa, will engrave beautifully. A brown dog on a brown floor is harder, though we can often help by simplifying the background. If you want to understand why, our guide to how laser engraving works explains the process.

Full-colour dog gifts

If the dog’s colouring is part of their charm, such as a red setter or a merle collie, a printed gift will capture it best.

  • A photo mug. A personalised photo mug with the dog and “I’d Rather Be Walking Bramble”. Wrap-around printing means you can fit a wide shot of the dog mid-zoomie across the whole mug.
  • A phone case. A photo phone case means the dog is always on show without anyone having to scroll. Make sure you choose the right phone model.
  • A keyring for the lead hook. A metal photo keyring with the dog’s face and name. Ideal for house keys, which tend to live next to the lead anyway.
  • A slate for the hallway. A natural rock slate with a stand, printed with the dog in their favourite spot.
  • Coasters, one per dog. The photo coaster set of four lets you use a different picture on each, which is perfect for multi-dog households or a dog through the years, from puppy to grey muzzle.

Gifts for the walk

Dog lovers spend a lot of time outdoors in all weathers. Practical gifts get used every single day.

  • A water bottle. A 500ml stainless steel water bottle with their name and a small photo of the dog. Double-walled and leak-proof, it sits happily in a coat pocket or backpack.
  • A tumbler for the morning walk. The 40oz tumbler for anyone who heads out with a big drink in hand.
  • A tote bag for everything. Treats, poo bags, a ball, a spare lead. A personalised tote with the dog’s photo carries the lot.
  • A hoodie for cold mornings. A photo hoodie with the dog front and centre is a guaranteed conversation starter at the park.

Wording ideas for dog gifts

  • The dog’s full title: “Sir Barnaby of Halifax”.
  • A job description: “Chief Sofa Inspector”, “Head of Security”, “Professional Treat Taster”.
  • “Est.” with the year they came home.
  • From the dog: “Love you, Mum. Where’s my dinner? Biscuit x”.
  • The address-style line: “Ruled by Murphy since 2021”.

Something for the dog’s people

For new dog owners, a gift that celebrates the arrival can be lovely, a bit like a new baby gift. A mug with “Puppy Parent · Est. 2026” and their first photo together is sweet, and a personalised notebook is handy for training notes, vet appointments and the inevitable list of chewed belongings.

More ideas live in our personalised gifts for dog lovers collection, and at Christmas a personalised stocking with the dog’s name on it is always popular. For more festive ideas, see our Christmas gift guide.

Remembering a much-loved pet

Losing a dog is losing a member of the family, and the quiet house afterwards can be hard to bear. A small keepsake will not fill the gap, but many people find comfort in having a favourite photo somewhere they can see it every day.

A few gentle ideas:

  • An engraved wooden coaster with their photo, name and the years they were with you, kept on a bedside table or a shelf rather than used every day.
  • A crystal photo block. The crystal photo block catches the light softly on a windowsill. The small size comes in a presentation box, which makes it a thoughtful gift for a friend who is grieving.
  • A photo slate with a short line such as “Forever by our side” or simply their name.
  • A keyring or necklace, so they are always close. A photo necklace with a close-up of their face can be a real comfort.

With wording, less is often more. A name and two years, “Always our good girl”, or the nickname only the family used are usually enough. If you are struggling to find the words, or are not sure which photo to use, email us and a real person will help. We look at every design before it is made, and we treat memorial orders with particular care.
