Personalised Mother’s Day Gift Ideas She Will Actually Use
Personalised Mothering Sunday gifts for mums, nans, step-mums and first-time mums, from photo necklaces and slates to tumblers and mugs, plus wording ideas and ordering dates.

In the UK, Mother’s Day is really Mothering Sunday, and it does not sit on a fixed date. It falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday, which means it can land anywhere from early March to early April. If you have ever been caught out by it, you are in good company. Pop a reminder in your phone the moment Easter dates are announced.
Mothering Sunday has older roots than the cards and flowers, too. It began as a day for returning to your “mother church”, and over time became a day for visiting your mum. That idea of coming home is a nice one to hold on to when choosing a gift. The best Mother’s Day presents are usually about the family she made, not about the gift itself.
Here are ideas for every kind of mum, all made to order in the Laser & Ink workshop in Sowerby Bridge.
Gifts she can keep close
Something she can wear or carry means the people she loves go everywhere with her.
- A photo necklace. A heart or circle photo pendant with a picture of her children or grandchildren. It comes with a matching chain and gift pouch. Choose a close-up rather than a group, so faces stay clear at pendant size.
- A photo keyring. A metal photo keyring in silver, gold or rose gold, with a short message such as “Love you, Mum x”.
- A phone case. If she is forever showing people photos of the kids, a photo phone case does the job for her. Double-check her phone model first, as cases are made for each specific model.
Gifts for her home
- A photo slate for the mantelpiece. A natural rock slate with a stand, printed with a favourite family photo and a caption like “The Walkers · Filey 2026”. Every slate has its own uneven edge, so no two are the same.
- A crystal photo block. The crystal photo block catches the light on a windowsill and makes a photo look quietly special. The small size comes in a presentation box, which saves you a job.
- Coasters with four chapters. The photo coaster set of four lets you use a different picture on each one: the kids as babies, at primary school, as teenagers and now.
- A chopping board for the cook. If Sunday lunch at Mum’s is the family institution, a glass chopping board with “Mum’s Kitchen · Est. 1992” is a fitting tribute. The print is on the underside, so it stays clear of knives.
Gifts for the busy mum
For mums who are always on the go, practical wins.
- A 40oz tumbler. The 40oz tumbler with handle comes with a straw and lid, and you can choose a background of soft florals, leopard print or pastel checks with her name over the top.
- A water bottle for the gym bag. A 500ml stainless steel bottle in white, pink or blue, with her name and an optional photo.
- A tote for everything else. A large personalised tote bag for the school run, the shopping or the library books.
- A mug that is hers alone. In a house full of people, a photo mug with “Mum’s Tea. Hands Off.” settles a lot of arguments.
For nans and grandmas
Grandmothers tend to treasure anything with the grandchildren on it. A photo slate coaster by her armchair, a mug with all the grandkids squeezed together, or a crystal block with “Nana’s Favourites” all work beautifully. For a gift that feels more grown-up, try a recent photo of her with the grandchildren rather than just the children on their own. Our personalised gifts for grandparents page has more ideas.
For step-mums, mother figures and those we miss
Mothering Sunday is for everyone who has mothered you: step-mums, foster mums, aunties, godmothers, older sisters and friends who stepped in when you needed them. Simple wording often says the most. “Thank you for everything” or “Family isn’t always blood” can mean a great deal on a mug or a slate.
It can also be a hard day for anyone who has lost their mum, or who is a mum to a child who is no longer here. If you are buying for someone in that position, a quiet keepsake with a favourite photo can be a comfort. Our personalised memorial gifts are made with the same care as everything else, and you are always welcome to email us if you would like help with wording.
For brand-new mums
A first Mother’s Day deserves marking, even if she is too tired to notice the date. A mug with the baby’s photo and “Mum since 2026”, a photo necklace, or a notebook for jotting down the firsts are all lovely choices. Our guide to new baby keepsakes has more.
Wording ideas for Mum
- “Mum · Est. 1988” (the year her first child was born).
- “World’s Okayest Mum”, for mums with a sense of humour.
- “Love from Jack, Ella & Biscuit” (the dog counts).
- A line she always says: “Have you got a coat?” or “Ring me when you get there.”
Short lines read best, especially on smaller items like keyrings. Every design is checked by a real person before it is made, so if a photo or line of text is not going to work at that size, we will let you know.
Choosing a photo
A good photo makes all the difference. Send the original from your camera roll rather than a screenshot or a picture saved from social media, and pick one with good light where faces are clear. Our photo tips for personalised gifts walks through it step by step, including a size guide for each product.
When to order for Mother’s Day
Everything is made to order in 1–3 working days, then sent by Royal Mail, which takes 2–3 working days. UK delivery is a flat £4.99. Because the date of Mothering Sunday moves around, check the calendar and aim to order around ten days ahead, a little more if you are sending to more than one address.
As every gift is personalised, we cannot take returns for a change of mind, but if anything arrives faulty or misprinted we will replace it.
