Custom Laser Engraving Service in West Yorkshire

Looking for custom engraving or laser engraving near you? Laser & Ink is a small independent workshop in Sowerby Bridge, in the Calder Valley just outside Halifax. As well as the personalised gifts in our shop, we take on custom laser engraving for businesses, events and one-off ideas, from a single bespoke piece to a small batch run of branded coasters.

We work with customers across West Yorkshire, including Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Huddersfield, Brighouse and Elland, and post finished work anywhere in the UK.

What we can engrave

We use a Creality Falcon 10W diode laser with LightBurn software, plus a rotary attachment for glasses and other round items. A diode laser is brilliant on natural and coated materials. Here’s what it handles well:

  • Wood – coasters, beer mats, chopping boards, signs, boxes and plaques. Our own wooden mats are 95mm round and 7mm thick, with four rubber feet.
  • Slate – coasters, house signs and memorial-style plaques, engraving to a crisp pale finish.
  • Leather – wallets, keyrings, patches and luggage tags (real leather; some faux leathers aren’t suitable).
  • Glass – pint glasses, tumblers and jars, giving a frosted etched look.
  • Anodised and coated metal – anodised aluminium, powder-coated tumblers and painted flasks, where the laser removes the coating to reveal the metal beneath.
  • Painted surfaces – painted wood and other coated items.

To be honest about the limits: a 10W diode laser can’t engrave clear acrylic, because the beam passes straight through it, and it can’t mark bare stainless steel without a laser marking spray. If you’re not sure whether your material will work, just ask. We’d rather tell you up front than disappoint you.

Typical uses

For businesses

  • Branded coasters and beer mats for pubs, bars, breweries, taprooms and cafés: reusable, hard-wearing and far more memorable than cardboard.
  • Corporate gifts for clients and staff, engraved with your logo or a personal message.
  • Signage such as small wooden or slate signs, table numbers, menu boards and shelf labels.
  • Merchandise for small batch runs, events, launches and markets.

For one-offs and celebrations

  • Wedding favours – named coasters, place settings and engraved glasses for the top table.
  • Bespoke gifts – a design that isn’t in our shop, a special date, or a hand-drawn sketch turned into an engraving.
  • Bring your own item – got a chopping board, a box or a keepsake you’d like engraved? Get in touch and we’ll tell you whether it’s suitable. We may ask to test on a hidden area first.

How quoting works

  1. Send us your details. Tell us what you’d like engraved, how many, any deadline, and attach your artwork or logo if you have one. Use the form below or email grant@laserandink.co.uk.
  2. Get a quote within 1–2 working days. We’ll reply with a price and an estimated turnaround, and ask any questions we need answered.
  3. Approve a proof. Before anything is made, we send you a digital proof showing the layout and sizing. Nothing goes on the laser until you’re happy with it.
  4. We make it. Your order is engraved, checked and either posted by Royal Mail or made ready for collection.

Artwork requirements

  • Ideal: vector files, such as SVG, PDF or AI. These stay razor sharp at any size.
  • Fine: high-resolution PNG or JPG files. The bigger and clearer, the better.
  • No artwork? We can redraw a logo from a photo or a low-quality image, or set up simple text designs for you. Just let us know when you ask for a quote.

Engraving is single tone, so designs with strong outlines and good contrast work best. Fine detail and gradients can be adapted, and we’ll advise if something needs simplifying.

Pricing

Every custom job is priced individually, depending on the material, the size and detail of the engraving, the quantity and whether any artwork needs preparing. Larger runs usually bring the price per item down, and you’ll always get a clear quote before you commit. There’s no charge for asking.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum order for custom engraving?

No. We’re happy to make a single bespoke piece as well as small batch runs for businesses and events.

Can you engrave an item I already own?

Often, yes. Wood, slate, leather, glass and coated metals usually work well. Send us a photo and details of the item first and we’ll tell you whether it’s suitable. We can’t engrave clear acrylic or bare stainless steel.

Do you offer laser engraving near me in Halifax or Huddersfield?

We’re based in Sowerby Bridge, a few miles from Halifax, and work with customers across West Yorkshire including Hebden Bridge, Brighouse, Elland and Huddersfield. Local collection from Sowerby Bridge can be arranged, or we post anywhere in the UK.

How long does a custom order take?

It depends on the size of the job and whether artwork needs preparing. We’ll give you an estimated turnaround with your quote, and work to your deadline wherever we can. Let us know your date when you get in touch.

What file format should my logo be in?

Vector files (SVG, PDF or AI) are ideal. A high-resolution PNG or JPG is fine too. If you only have a small or blurry logo, we can redraw it for you.

Will I see a proof before you engrave?

Yes. We send a digital proof for every custom order, and nothing is engraved until you’ve approved it.

Can you engrave logos for pubs and breweries?

Yes, as long as it’s your own logo or you have permission to use it. Branded wooden beer mats and coasters for pubs, bars, breweries and cafés are one of our favourite jobs.
